The Ile de France is an administrative Region. She is formed of eight departments:

- Paris (75)   2 152 400 h.

- Hauts-de-Seine (92)  1 391 200 h.

The County seat is Paris. 
The surface is 12 012 km². 
The number of inhabitants of the region is 10 660 100 people. 
Inhabitants are called of the Franciliens.

- Marne la Vallée  210 800 h.
- Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines 128 700 h.
- Sénart     81 800 h.

GEOGRAPHY

Eleven millions of inhabitants are on a surface of 12 000 km². That is to say that on 2% of the territory, the region of island-of-France counts close to the fifth of the national population. The Ile de France has a privileged position in the Parisian basin. It is a place of convergence confirmed by her network of transport. 

Space francilien constitutes a very real unit. But one distinguishes some specific zones. 
To the Northwest and the Northeast of Paris is formed the plain of France and the Parisis. 
The Mantois, the French Véxin and the country of the Yvelines are in the West periphery, of the North to the South. 
To the south is the Hurepoix and beyond the fringe Northeast of the Beauce. 
Finally, a succession of «regions» is in Seine-and-Marne. She/it draws a bow of circle in periphery of island-of-France. 
Of the North to the South, it is the Goêlle and the Multien, then Brie champenoise, the Montois and the Gâtinais. 
This bow of circle grasps the French Brie. 
Placed to the center of Seine-and-Marne, it is a tray employee to the big culture. 

21% of the regional territory are covered by the Parisian agglomeration. 
Nearly 9 franciliens on 10 live in this restricted surface. 
But Paris has tendency to depopulate itself/themselves since 1901 to the profit of the suburb or the Province. 
The whole of island-of-France won 125% of inhabitants, whereas Paris lost 21% of them. 

Island-of-France remains a big natural region. More than 80% of the surface remain organized of natural spaces, and less 20% some earth is urbanized.
